The utility can create MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, and SHA-512/384 hashes as well as a native check of those (SHA-256/384), among others. The app also automatically keeps track of files that have been altered while you may or may not have permissions to, so you can always make sure that you have all the files checksummed.
To view a checksum, simply right-click on the file and select the “Checksum” option from the context menu.

ZipSpy, for its part, is hardly a viable option for remote uploads (it can verify remote downloads); however, it can verify ZIP archives and, most importantly for our purposes,.RAR files.
It’s a fairly basic utility at this point, but then again, it is fairly inexpensive.
To create an archive from your file and have it checked, go to File > Prepare archive, then click the Create Archive button.
While it’s fairly straightforward to use, we’re not thrilled with the results.
The UI is attractive and intuitive but the app’s updates could have been a lot more frequent. At this point, CheckSum Online’s main advantage is that it’s free, but that’s where the utility’s downsides really begin to show.

I tried a bunch of various file integrity checks out there, like the ones listed in Ravello’s answer, and most failed horribly to detect the files I was expecting. So, I just wrote my own checksum (and you can copy and paste the code into a text file and run it on your local disk). It’s not as perfect as some of those programs but it seems to work. I also found that most of these sort of checksum programs don’t work on long files (eg, large-ish archives, executable files) and/or huge files (huge webpages).
This is a better way to check file integrity than data corruption. We deal with data all day every day, but we’re almost never seeing a problem of a file that works exactly as expected and then suddenly turns into a problem. So, I decided to include this checksum with my own program.

It should get a “good” result 99% of the time (ie, it’s very unlikely a problem will occur) and it’s very unlikely a problem will occur if the checksum is changed to something else. If a problem does occur, it’s very likely to be a data corruption issue not a file integrity issue. It’s better to check file integrity before data corruption.
